In children, nasal obstruction can be the cause of mild sleep apnea, and treatment with decongestant sprays may be sufficient. If the cause of the nasal obstruction is allergies, then an allergist may help control the symptoms and the sleep apnea. If the tonsils or adenoids are very enlarged, medical treatment or surgery may be recommended to remove the obstruction caused by the enlarged tonsils and adenoids. Obesity must also be addressed since losing weight can decrease the severity of sleep apnea.
