World Sleep 2025: BlueSleep’s Dental Team on the Cutting Edge of Oral Appliance Therapy

BlueSleep’s model to diagnose and treat sleep apnea continues to drive down costs and increase access. For patients opting for oral appliance therapy (mandibular advancement devices), our dental team led by Alicia Jackson, DDS, Director of Oral Appliance Therapy and Research, ensures that patients receive a digital scan of their teeth at our clinic at 245 5th Avenue in New York, followed by the ordering and fitting of the best oral appliances paid for by medical insurance.
Annual Review of Oral Appliances by the BlueSleep Dental Team
For three years the dental team has posted “Best Devices for Sleep Apnea: Oral Appliance Reviews” based on the oral appliances’ efficiency, comfort, maintenance, durability and warranty and advancement. The review includes devices made by Prosomnus, Panthera, Glidewell and Dynaflex. No other dentist or sleep specialists have conducted a review of oral appliances or continued to invest in original research on the effectiveness of oral appliance therapy.
Original Research on Oral Appliance Therapy
At World Sleep 2025 in Singapore Dr. Jackson and Bluesleep’s Founder and CEO, Jordan Stern, MD presented real-world, single-center results of a telemedicine workflow for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and snoring using Mandibular Advancement Devices.
This study reviewed 15,011 new sleep patients entering the sleep care pathway through the BlueSleep® digital platform and workflow, comparing pre and post treatment AHI (Apnea Hypopnea Index) scores for patients with mild, moderate, and severe OSA treated with ProSomnus devices.
Conclusions of the Research Study
The current state of OSA diagnosis and treatment requiring in person visits for consultations, sleep lab tests, and multiple in person visits for treatment can only serve a very small percentage of the at-risk population. This review suggests that a virtual workflow including telemedicine consultations, home sleep tests shipped to patients’ homes, and virtual delivery of MADs is feasible; and a valid alternative to the current in-person model. The virtual workflow is a scalable model that is rapid, affordable, effective, and can better serve the one billion people affected by OSA globally.
What We Learn
>50% reduction in AHI with MAD in moderate and severe OSA
Not all patients complete post treatment HST even when they already have the single use device in their home - likely due to cost issues
An easier solution is needed for objective post treatment evaluation of OSA including wearables or integrated sensors in the OATs.
We are updating this series as more patients complete their post treatment HSTs
